Hello again everybody,
the ECR 2015 finished in February, but we have forgotten to upload a few photos of our winning party with the trophy and the sheep. We took the Photos in April and would like to show them now to you. We hope you enjoyed the contest as much as we did and we wish you a great summer.
P.S.: the great chain reaction with all countries was the best!
Thanks to belgium for their very good organisation.

The voting table
Hi all,
Probably you are wondering which country gave you which points?
Here you can see the table with all the scores. All countries who have uploaded a technical chain reaction did send in their votes, so that's just excellent!
Thank you all for participating and we hope you had a lot of fun while learning that science/engineering can be very interesting!
Kind regards and looking forward to ECR2016 now already!

The votes have been counted!
Hi to all chaintists,
Just to inform you, all of the votes have been counted and the ECR-2015-newsflash has been recorded last Friday as planned!
So, on Monday we can publish the ECR-2015-newsflash in which we will announce the winner of this years competition! This newsflash will be published on the blog at Monday February 2nd at 11:00 Brussels time, so all of you get to know their position in the final ranking at the same time!
We will show you the European Chain Reaction 2015 then too (all chain reactions combined into ONE CROSS BORDER EUROPEAN CHAIN REACTION), and it will be a real nice and long one, since you all were extremely creative this year! We hope all of you will be pleased with the outcome!
On Tuesday we will upload an overview in a votes-table, so all of you can see how many points you received from which countries. (We won’t publish this on Monday to hold the excitement. Now all of you are obliged to watch the newsflash if you want to know your place in the ranking :-) !)

Bulgaria - The chain raection
Dear friends, the project was made by Kris and my students from 4th grade. They have decided to present a Bulgarian folk tale and a folk children song.
THE HELPER
Bulgarian folk tale
A lumberjack had two sons. Every time when they were in the forest together, he needed help from them. Once lumberjack has prepared the wagon and told his sons:
- Come on, boys, go alone in the forest for firewood. I will stay at home for a rest because I'm very tired.
Boys were delighted that their father could rely on them, and went out in the forest. When the older one left the house, looked back to his father and said:
- Well Dad, if we damage the car, who will fix it?
- No worries - replied the father - if you break down the car, call The Helper, it will fix it.
The boys went into the forest. They started cutting wood hastily, loaded and overloaded the car. The boys decided to go back.
In the middle of the road, when the wagon descended on a downhill, the overloaded car crashed. The boys were scared: but now how we will go back by the broken wagon with the wood? Then the older one reminded the words of his father and they started shouting The Helper:
- Heeeelpeeer!!! Heeeelpeeer!!! Come and fix our car!
None called.
-Heeeelpeeer!!! - Echoed louded the voice. - Come on, we need help!
But the forest was deaf and there wasn't any answer by the support.
It was getting dark. Birds returned to their nests. On the sky appeared pale moon.
The youngest son said:
- It was obvious that the Helper will not come. Who knows where it is now, probably fixing another car or lying under a tree. Let's try to fix the car by ourselves.
- How? - asked the older son. - It is not easy.
- I will engrave a new rod and I will try to replace it.
Said and done. The boy found a dry dogwood, cut it, carved it nice, made new hitch and put it instead of the broken one.
The boys went back.
They unloaded the woods from the car and told their father what had happened.
- Dear Dad, halfway of the road we have broken the hitch. We started calling The Helper - we shouted, shouted... but it did not answer, seemed to be lost in the ground. Then with blood, sweat and tears we have made a new hitch stronger than the old one.
The father smiled and said:
- Well, my sons, you were looking for the Helper, but the Helper was with you. It has helped you to repair the wagon. Think a bit and you'll see I'm right.

In the end we are proud and happy with the result. It was really a great fun and the children had good ideas and inventions. We all learned a lot and we hope that you all had as much fun as we had.Creating the video was a good excercise for us unexperienced kindergarden teachers.

Scotland - The European Chain Reaction 2015
Hello from Scotland!
Yester Primary school represents Scotland once again this year, with the entry coming from the young children in Primary 3/4, who are 7 or 8 years old.
We have had lots of fun creating our chain reaction, as usual, and the work was done entirely by the children, with no input from adults.
This meant that it was quite difficult for the children, but they tried very hard.
Hope you enjoy watching it, and good luck from us to all the countries involved in 2015!

We continued with the same circus theme as we had in the human chain reaction.
I downloaded the video here already on the 12th of January. What I didn't realize then, is that I had accidentaly used some illegal music without copyrights. The site where I downloaded that circus-music, seemed all right, but you haven't been able to watch our video in some countries. Here below, on the 24th of Janury, is now the same video, with the new, CC-licenced Circus Music. Enjoy!
And here is still the original one, if you have already given points to it and you want to compare them!
We hope you'll have fun watching this! We sure had fun making it!

The rules of the game...
The European Chain Reaction 2015 is a science/art project for primary schools wishing to create, film and upload a "Rube-Goldberg/Robert Storm Petersen-like" chain reaction. This project is a competition and a European collaboration! The school which uploads the most astonishing, creative chain reaction not only wins a trophy, but also wins tons of faim! In the end all videos will be emerged into ONE BIG CROSS BORDER EUROPEAN CHAIN REACTION (look at the European Chain Reaction 2014)!
This
eTwinningproject allows as many as possible European schools - all from
different countries - to enter the competition! By entering the competition you
agree to the following rules:
TIMELINE
- When you
enter the competition, your school e-mails an image of the school and a short
text in which the school presents herself!
- Your kids
present themselves in a short video. The best way to do this is by
presenting themselves in a human chain reaction. This video should be
uploaded by Friday December 19th 2014.
- You and
your class will have until Friday 23rd January 2015 to
create, practice, film and upload a video of your chain reaction to a videosite
(like Vimeo, Youtube, ...) and embed it in this blog.
- When all
videos are uploaded to the blog every school will watch the entries of the
other participants and will decide on wich countries receive wich amount of points.
All points
should be e-mailed to Dave Schrauwen by Thursday January 29th 2015.
- On Friday January 30th the class of Dave will record a newsflash announcing who will be the winner of the project. The link to this video will be kept secret until Monday February 2nd 11:00
(Brussels time).
- On Monday February 2nd 11:00 Brussels time the video will be embedded into the website, so everyone can find out how well they scored in this competition and how fabulous the ECR 2015 really is! The winning school will be sent a specially commissioned trophy, but above all wins the everlasting respect of all the other participants!

The winning school will be sent a specially commissioned trophy, but above all wins the everlasting respect of all the other participants!
RULES
1. Only one
school from each country will be allowed to enter. We would like to have as
many as possible European countries involved!
2. The
European Chain Reaction 2015-project is for primary schools only!
3. Once you
have agreed to enter and submitted your request to the project coordinator,
Dave Schrauwen you will receive an invitation to become a partner in the
project, followed later by a separate invitation to contribute to the project's
blog. You need to sign up for the blog, whereby you will be able to upload your
finished chain reaction in due course. In addition, please send Dave a brief
description of your school, along with a photograph, that Dave will add to the
blog, so that each country can see who is all taking part.
4. All
schools will upload a short video in which they present themselves so all
contestants can get to know their opponents/partners! The best way to do
this is by creating a human chain reaction video!
5. The
actual technological chain reaction should be created and practiced by the
students and their teachers (giving them advice) only! The chain reaction
has to be a technological chain reaction. Children may appear in the video
shortly, but the technological aspect is the most important! Look at the
winning 2011 video for a very good exemple!
6. The
length of the chain reaction video should be at least 30 seconds.
The video may be shot by the teacher or the children
7. Every
partner is responsible for his own entry! When inserting music into the
video, please use music that is copyright free. You could use a creative
commons sound or song. You can find free sounds and music here: http://dig.ccmixter.org/
8. All
entries should be completed by Friday 23rd January 2015.
When your chain reaction is ready, you upload the video of this chain reaction
to the blog, via www.blogger.com using either the “upload
video” section of the site, or by uploading your video to Vimeo, YouTube, ...
then copying and pasting the embed code into your blog post. All files MUST be
uploaded by Friday 23rd Januray, as each country will then
need to watch all the entries and judge them during the following week- Monday
26th - Thursday 29th January.
9. Please
encourage your children to post a comment on the videos sent in by other
countries. By doing so, your children will learn some ICT -skills and learn to express themselves in a foreign language.
10. Once
you and your pupils have watched each entry and chosen your favourites, email
your choices to Dave Schrauwen, BEFORE Friday 30th January, so the pupils of Dave can create and record the newsflash on who is
the winner of the project on Friday January 30th. YOU MUST NOT
VOTE FOR YOUR OWN ENTRY!
11. The newsflash in which the winner of the
competition will be announced and the European Chain Reaction will be showed
will be added to the blog on Monday February 2nd at 11:00 Brussels time, in order
for everyone to find out at the same time who has won the competition!
GOOD LUCK
to all countries! Enjoy making your entry, and watching all the other entries!
